CLIFTON, NJ - A late-night fire ripped through a Clifton home Saturday, prompting a four-alarm response and drawing mutual aid from several surrounding counties.
Around 9 p.m., Clifton firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of Demott Avenue for reports of a fully involved house fire. Upon arrival, the Clifton fire chief found the residence engulfed on all sides and quickly struck a three-alarm assignment.
Crews battled heavy flames for more than an hour. After the main body of fire was knocked down, a flare-up on the D-side of the structure forced the chief to escalate the incident to a fourth alarm.
Fire companies from Essex, Passaic, and Bergen counties responded to assist at the scene, while additional units covered Clifton firehouses.
The blaze was declared under control shortly after 10:30 p.m. No injuries were immediately reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
