Charlotte Firefighters Contain Backyard Fire Threatening Townhome
CHARLOTTE, NC- Just before 6 PM on August 26th, multiple 911 calls came in reporting a fire near a residence in Charlotte. Initial reports included a caller advising their backyard was on fire within ten feet of their home, a 911 hang-up claiming the house was on fire, and another caller believing a gas explosion had occurred.
The incident was initially dispatched as a brush fire, with Battalion 4, Brush 20, Engine 3 Tower 3, Engine 14, and Engine 65 responding. Tower 3 arrived first and reported smoke showing from the rear of a two-story townhome. Battalion Chief 4 arrived shortly after and declared a working fire based on visible smoke conditions.
The box alarm was filled adding Engine 6, Ladder 45, Rescue 11, Safety 1, and Investigators 1 and 2. Engine 14 initiated fire attack, Engine 65 deployed a second line, and Engine 6 was assigned RIT. Tower 3 conducted searches, while Brush 20 was released after confirming no further extension into the wildland interface.
Fire was brought under control within 25 minutes of the working fire assignment being transmitted.
