2nd Alarm House Fire in Montclair

On Saturday the 25th, at 15:22, the Montclair Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 152 South Mountain Ave and Gates for the report of a fire. At 15:27 Engine 1 arrived and reported a 2 1/2 story with smoke showing from the rear. Battalion 4 arrived immediately after and reported smoke from the doors and the second floor, at 15:27 a second alarm was transmitted requesting two additional engines and a truck to the scene, the address was corrected to be 158 South Mountain ave. At 15:29 the fire was transmitted over the county mutual aid channel. West Orange Engine 2, Orange Engine 4, and Nutley Ladder 1 were dispatched, also the West Orange Tour Commander and Nutley FD-101 responded to the scene. They had water on the fire by 15:31 and just minutes later a water supply. At 15:34 a primary search was completed and returned negative of the second floor, at 15:37 the primary search for the third floor was also negative. Crews had three lines in operation and were working extensively to open up the walls and ceilings to chase down pockets of fire and ensure the fire didn't extend. The fire was placed under control at 16:14 with mutual aid companies clearing at 16:24 and all Montclair companies clearing at 17:05, releasing the scene to MPD.
